Where Witty Meets GrittyNext Sunday, November 24 will be the launching of a unique experiment of art and society in New York. It is called ELS-LES. 22 galleries and art spaces will open their current shows, permanent collections and specials to all New Yorkers the last Sunday of every month. St . The New York Times of Friday November 15 carries a two pages, well illustrated and documented article by art critic Holland Cotter (pages E 31 & 34) under the title: "Where Witty meets Gritty". That is arguably one of the most entertaining and illuminating articles ever written about the Lower East Side. Required reading.
