"Tango X 2" - Two Argentine Painters Celebrate the 'Tango Argentino'

OPENING RECEPTION WILL BE ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 20, 6.30 - 9PM. Coming directly from Buenos Aires, where the show premiered at the 'Academia Nacional del Tango', the artists Jose M. Ansalone and Sirje O. Ainso exhibit at the Angel Orensanz Foundation Center for the Arts in New York. Tango, as a cultural expression, has always intrigued artists of the creative world. "TANGO X 2" reflects the fascination of two fine artists with this subject. They present two visions, two personal approaches, two variations on the theme. Jose Mario Ansalone is a well-known Argentine painter, who exhibits here his strong series on tango musicians. In 2002 he had a comprehensive retrospective show of his work at the National Gallery 'Palais de Glace' in Buenos Aires. Sirje Okas Ainso is an artist working in New York. Of Estonian heritage, she spent her formative years in Argentina. The paintings she exhibits here depict the dance, the mood, the story behind the tango. In 1994 her colorful series "Save the Rainforests!" was premiered at the United Nations headquarters in NYC.

"TANGO X 2" will be shown October 20 - 24 at the Angel Orensanz Center for the Arts, 172 Norfolk St. (between E. Houston and Stanton St). Tel (212) 529-7194

There will be a special performance by Argentine concert pianist Rosa Antonelli, who will interpret modern and classical tango music by Argentine composers.
