4th Angel Orensanz Foundation International Art AwardSpanish Artist Antonio Suarez-Chamorro and Australian Denis Nona share First Prize of the 4th Angel Orensanz Foundation International Art Award. In a ceremony celebrated yesterday at City Hall, at 4 PM, The President of the Borough of Manhattan, C. Virginia Fields made known to the media, artists, and the public in general the results of the 4th Angel Orensanz Foundation International Art Award. Antonio Suarez-Chamorro from Malaga, Spain, and Denis Nona of South Brisbane (Australia) shared the first prize. The popular vote was granted to Lopez Garcia , an artist from Brazil. The four finalists were Dorothy Krakauer (US), Isabel Echevarria Rocha (Phillipines); Eduardo Plaza (Argentina) and Paul Cabezas (Peru). The jury was composed of such persons as Dan Cameron, senior curator of the New Museum of Contemporary Art (New York), Eleanor Heartney (art critic "Art in America" magazine), Pablo Helguera (Guggenheim Museum, New York), Donna Cameron (New York University), and Michele Thursz (art critic of Artforum). The main characteristic of this award consists in the full use of digital technology by the artists, the administrative services by the Foundation, the presentation of the award, its diffusion and the participation of the jury. This award might well be one of the first all digital awards. This Summer and Fall, the show will be presented in Venice and at the Angel Orensanz Foundation in Paris. The results of nine months by these thirty artists from twelve countries will remain in the internet in a brilliant page designed and maintained by the Angel Orensanz Foundation, accessible worldwide for one year at www.orensanzaward.com. |
