A Hundred and Fifty European Museums Visit the Orensanz Exhibition in Lisbon, Portugal
Representatives of 150 European museums visited this past Friday, May 13, the exhibition “Reflectant Universe” that the Water Museum in Lisbon presents until the 30th of June 2006 in the Amoreira quarter of central Lisbon. . Museums and museum entities from all European countries, from Scandinavia to Germany, France and Spain, are spending part of this week in Lisbon for their annual convention. The Water Museum welcomed all the participants with a guided tour of the Orensanz exhibition; a copy of the 130 page catalogue in Portuguese and English and with a dinner party atop the Museum terrace, with a view of the Tajo estuary and the bay Lisbon. This building is a 18th century masterpiece, declared by UNESCO a “World Heritage Monument”. During the reception there were speeches, among others, by Sir Neil Cossons, the President of the Board of Directors of the museums federation; the Director of the Water Museum and curator of the exhibition, Dr. Margarida Ruas; and sculptor Angel Orensanz. Doctor Ruas described her role in bringing creative contemporary artists to her museum; and Angel Orensanz commented how his show “Reflectant Universe” is another step in his exhibitions and projects in which “water always appears as an abstract and mysterious element, vitalizing and threatening, from Venice to St. Petersburg and from Manhattan to Palermo”. The exhibition opened the past April 21 and will close June 30th, 2006. Video and other documentary materials of the exhibition can be seen 24 hours at www.orensanz.tv and at www.angelorensanz.com. The catalogue of the exhibition can be obtained from Museu da Agua, Rua Alviela, 12, 1170-012 Lisbon, Portugal; and from the Angel Orensanz Foundation in Paris, at 9, rue de Thorigny, 75003 Paris, France; and from 172 Norfolk St. New York, NY 10002. |
